Starting out as a photographer with a national daily newspaper, Abdullah Al shuhi is now a leading name among Oman’s active community of photography professionals. Over the past 20 years, he has pursued a successful career in press photography in tandem with a passion for tour guiding.
A lifelong fascination for travel and discovery has taken him across the length and breadth of Oman, affording him unparalleled access to places of extraordinary charm whether along secluded coastal swaths or deep in remote wadis. His forte as a tour guide stems from his first-hand experiences with local inhabitants and an intimate understanding of their customs and traditions.
Abdullah’s services as an independent tour guide (when he is not busy conducting his own tours) were recently enlisted by the BBC’s Natural History Unit for a filming expedition of Oman covering the country’s dramatic landscapes, natural treasures, and vibrant traditions ,ZDF ,RTE and National Geographic Learning
Abdullah is also an author of two much-acclaimed illustrated books on Oman:
- Oman – The Big Picture , published in 2008, is a 305-page coffee table publication spotlighting places of popular tourist interest in the Sultanate of Oman.
- Oman – Living Traditions , published in 2011, is a 380-page pictorial book offering fascinating insights into Oman’s charming traditions and customs.
